Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro driver Massa and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Button were joined on stage in the shopping mall by Director of Bridgestone Motorsport Hiroshi Yasukawa and Director of Bridgestone Motorsport Tyre Development Hirohide Hamashima as well as Mr. Yoichi Kono, Managing Director of Bridgestone Singapore.
Topics of the day were safer and more environmentally friendly driving techniques for Singapore's drivers with a strong media presence in attendance to spread the word of this and Bridgestone's involvement in Formula 1's only night race.
Felipe and Jenson both spoke of the importance of drivers monitoring their tyre pressure and driving with consideration for fellow road users.
Hirohide Hamashima stressed the importance of tyre pressure, not just at the race track but for the public roads too.
“A key factor to greener motoring is to ensure driving on tyres with the right air pressure," he told the crowd. "Driving with air pressure lower than it should be decreases fuel efficiency by 2% to 4%. A correctly inflated tyre increases grip on the road and safety as well.”
Bridgestone has been a long term partner with the FIA, promoting “MAKE CARS GREEN”, an international environmental campaign to encourage road users to drive in a more environmentally friendly manner, and the “THINK BEFORE YOU DRIVE” road safety campaign.
Bridgestone’s Formula One tyres already adhere to the latest EU standards for replacing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with low polycyclic aromatic oils.
Bridgestone continues to develop energy-efficient tyres such as the ECOPIA brand of tyres which provide greater reduction in rolling resistance, thus improving fuel efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
